Will a horse regain the upper hoof in this year’s Man v Horse?

THIS summer, runners and riders will descend on the small Powys town of Llanwrtyd Wells for the internationally-acclaimed annual Man v Horse race.

The equestrians will be out for revenge this year, after a human bagged a rare victory last year - with Ricky Lightfoot beating the field, both four and two-legged. He is only the third human ever to win the race.

The race is over 20 years old, having been launched in June 1980 by the landlord of the Neuadd Arms Hotel, Gordon Green.

It takes place over 22 miles of mountainous terrain.

There is an accumulating prize pot for a runner who beats the first horse and rider, which starts at £500 and increases by £500 each year the event takes place until it is won. This year, after the runner's victory in 2022, the pot is back at £500 - a far cry from the first jackpot landed by Huw Lobb in 2004 of £25,000!
